The school district I work for just raised there internal charge (the charge the department using the Bus must pay the transportation Dept.) for school bus field trip transportation from $1.25 per round trip mile to $1.35 per round trip mile. This was necessary because fuel cost went from $1.86 per Gallon to $2.41 per gallon (no tax to school dist). This is just for the Bus. the Driver wage and benifits (which are very little) are on top of that at a rate of $16.50 per hour plus clean up time. This is for a 77 passenger Blue Bird Transit style School Bus.
Under Michigan Law, the school Dist. can charter to some specific groups but cannot make a profit at it. Our Dist. has chosen, at least for now, not to do charters.
